A warm welcome for Wes

Goodbye 1999; hello 2009 and beyond for ThrillCall.

ThrillCall is happy to welcome creative lead extraordinaire Wes Wong into the fold this week. Wes most recently contributed to design and usability efforts at Imeem. Wes is charged with owning the visual design, branding and site design at ThrillCall. We're lucky to have him.

Beyond being proficient online (and a proficient father to boot), Wes is truly a scholar when it comes to the history and practice of design, having developed a love for typography early in his career. His first design job was at FontShop fronted by Erik Spiekerman. For those of us not in the know, Spiekermann designed the font that is used in more than 70% of all computer branding collateral.

Finally, and perhaps the reason that gave Wes the leg up through the hiring process, Wes gives ThrillCall just a little (actually a lot) more street cred. Beyond his history or breakdancing and dj'ing, Wes was recently commissioned to do one of the most expansive murals in the Haight-Asbury neighborhood of San Francisco on a wall that sits just across from the famed Amoeba music store.

Seems like a lot right? Wes's production might also be due to the fact that he's a self-described insomniac.

Welcome Wes.

U2 Concert Dates and Tickets: Cutting through the clutter

U2 announced the European leg of its tour this morning along some US dates to much fanfare with LiveNation and Signature creating a whole new Web site just for the tour dates, sponsored by Blackberry.

A really nice experience that shows you the stadium venues, including the field layout for U2 at Giants Stadium and U2 at Soldier Field where they will be playing later in 2009.

Our little buzz algorithm engine unconvered a few other things that U2 fans should know:

The U2 concert in Boston we believe is confirmed for March 11th, with the venue to be confirmed shortly.

Though unconfirmed, we believe U2 will be playing in Raleigh, North Carolina on October 3rd and in Houston, Texas at Reliant Stadium.

One more note, for our users, if you are signing up for the presale U2 subscription service, please take heed. Sign-up (and the $50 fee associated with it) does not gaurantee you access to U2 tour tickets. The service works by offering presale options to those that have been in the U2 fan club the longest.

Go to the confirmed and uncomfirmed U2 Concert Dates.

Go to the U2 Concert in Boston page.

The Only and Only Nish

ThrillCall is excited to welcome socialite extraordinaire, trendsetter, and just a genuine good guy Nish Nadaraja into our offices this week. Nish and the founders of ThrillCall also go back a long way to the pre-dotcom BOOM days in San Francisco.

Nish is also the Editor-in-Chief of Yelp, the high flying and very valuable local guide site that now boasts over 6 million monthly users.

Nish was an early leader of the team and was responsible for glavaning city support in each of the city's that Yelp expanded into, starting with its inaugural foray into San Francisco.

Yelp's tagline: Real People, Real Reviews.

Nish will be sitting with our team at ThrillCall and going over the finer points of managing our new and fast growing feature, our live performance rating. If you haven't read some of our reviews, check them out. If you haven't wrote any, what are you waiting for!

I want you to, "Walk this Line....

....because your mine!" (to Run DMC's "Walk This Way")

"I want you too...

Admitedly, Joaquin Phoenix did a bang up job as Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line."

His rap career? You be the judge. After the performance video, check out Phoenix doing a stumble.

Joaquin Phoenix plays Vegas:

Joaquin Phoenix falls off the stage:

We've decided to put up a Joaquin Phoenix artist page nonetheless.

Introducing: Ian Fung

Another day, another stellar addition to the growing ThrillCall tech team.

Welcoming, Ian Fung.

Ian comes to us by way of Quincy, Massachusetts and Cornell University, the same alma mater of cofounder Chad Taylor.

Ian's the type of developer we love at ThrillCall: opinionated, a technical wizard and highly collaborative.

Ian is also supremely fond of machine learning, participating and leading conversations on the topic in Fog City.

And if you catch up with Ian, don't forget to ask him his opinion on "Automatic Code Placement Alternatives for Ad-Hoc And Sensor Networks"....and then please explain it back to us.

Ian's other likes? Getting in to work for lunch time, whispering show tunes at just barely an audible rate under his breath, and the Filet-O-Fish.
